Department Awards
The Department of Statistics offers awards to outstanding graduate students based on academic performance, teaching, and service. These awards are typically granted once per year based on recommendations to the Department’s Awards Committee.
Graduate Student Awards
Best Performance in Probability
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in STAT 6325 and 6894. Candidates are nominated by the course instructor.
Best Performance in Inference
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in STAT 6315 and 6515. Candidates are nominated by the course instructor.
Best Performance in Biostatistics
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in BIST/STAT 5215, 5225, 5615, 5625, 5635, 5645, 5655, 5705, or 5815. Candidates are nominated by the course instructor.
Fairfield & Dolores Smith Award
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in BIST/STAT 5505 and BIST/STAT 5605. Candidates are nominated by the course instructor.
Gottfried Noether Award
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in BIST/STAT 5585 and BIST/STAT 5685. Candidates are nominated by the course instructor.
Mark of Excellence Award
Awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding performance on the qualifying exam. The award recipient is determined by the chair of the Graduate Exams Committee.
Service Award
Awarded to students who provide excellent services beyond regular TA/GA duties to social and academic events of the Department and to the student organization of the Department. Candidates may be nominated by anyone, and the recipients (at most two) are selected by the Awards Committee.
Teaching Award
Awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding performance in teaching assistantship. Candidates may be nominated by anyone, and the recipient(s) are selected by the Awards Committee.
