Four Ph.D. students from the Department of Statistics received awards at the 2026 New England Statistics Symposium (NESS), highlighting the strength and breadth of student research across both paper and poster categories.

Jongwoo Choi received a NESS Student Paper Award for his work, “Robust Model Selection Using Likelihood as Data.

Three students received NESS Student Poster Awards. Qingkai Dong was recognized for “Preserving Rare Features in Big Data Regression: Balanced Subsampling.Collin Nill received an award for “Manifold Constrained Conformal Prediction for Spatial Events.Xiaohui Yin was recognized for “Prioritized Rank Consolidation for Multiple Rare Clinical Events.
