Abstract: How the existing literature maximizes the two-parameter Normal likelihood, both in the univariate and the multivariate case, is akin to using a cannon to kill a fly. We present a fly swatter to get the job done - maximize the likelihood using elementary (linear, in the multivariate case) algebra.
